Who publishes Shilling Rate Desk and what it measures

Shilling Rate Desk is an independent editorial desk. It measures one thing: the shilling price of the US dollar, taken from named public sources and republished with the date and the hour it was read.

What the desk measures and how

The desk measures two rates and the gap between them. The official rate is the Central Bank of Kenya's weighted average of interbank spot trades for the latest trading day. The open-market rate is the median of credible Binance P2P advertisements for USDT in shillings. The gap is the open-market rate over the official rate.

Each figure is read from its named public source, with a link under every table, so a reader can check the figure at its publisher. The desk does not trade, does not hold client money, and is not a broker, an exchange, or a licensed adviser. It publishes the measurement and the hour it was read.

Why the hour is republished

A rate changes through the day. The official rate is fixed by the Central Bank after the close of trading, but the open-market rate moves as Binance P2P advertisements are posted and removed. Republishing the hour tells a reader when the desk read the source, so the figure is not mistaken for a live price.

The hour is not a promise that the rate will be the same later. It is a record of the moment the desk looked. A reader who needs a current rate for a transaction should check the source again at the time of the transaction, not rely on a page read earlier.

The desk's responsibility and corrections

Responsibility for the figures sits with the Shilling Rate Desk desk. The desk reads the sources, republishes the numbers, and answers corrections. It does not name a person because no single person is the source; the desk is the accountable unit.

A figure that is wrong is corrected and the correction is dated. Writing to editor@shillingdeskke.pages.dev reaches the desk. Corrections are the reason the address exists. A reader who finds a figure that does not match the cited source should write, and the desk will check the source and correct the page if it is wrong.

Affiliate disclosure

The site links to one broker, FxPro, through an affiliate link, and is paid a commission if a reader opens an account there. The reader pays nothing to this site and nothing extra at the broker. This is the only way the site earns.

Nothing on the site is investment advice, a recommendation or an offer. The figures describe what things cost, not what a reader should do. Following the link leaves this site, and the broker's own site is operated by someone else, under its own terms and its own privacy policy.
